  • Kagiso Rabada

With his current bowling stats Rabada is showing all signs that he is the next Dale Steyn for South Africa. With his bowling speeds reaching upto 136.7 kmph he surely has a few key wickets written on his name for this season of IPL. Rabada has taken 22 wickets in 16 T20 matches with an impressive strike rate of 16.45. He debuted last year for the Delhi Daredevils but he did not get many opportunities to manifest his potential, playing just six games.

  • Rishabh Pant

Only his third IPL match, Pant scored 69 runs off 40 balls, helping DD to an eight-wicket victory over the Gujarat Lions. Rishabh Pant started gaining fame in his U-19 Cricket World Cup. Being very aggressive in nature this is a Batsman-Wicketkeeper combo to definitely look out for in this 2018 season of the IPL. Last year itself he shattered Gujarat Lions’ bowling once again with a breathtaking 97 off 43 balls. He ended the tournament with an impressive 366 runs.

  • Shreyas Iyer

During 2015 auction DD signed Shreyas Iyer for a massive amount of Rs. 2.6 crores, making him the IPL’s highest paid uncapped player. He played 8 matches for DD last season scalping 5 wickets to his name also includes his 2/34 against RCB in the 11th match of the tournament, where he dismissed well set de Villiers and Kohli to change the fortunes for DD in that game. And hence definitely shows signs to be retained by the DD.

Here are our top 5 picks of players that are sure to be retained in the 2018 auction.

  • Rohit Sharma

With his mind-blowing performance in the ODI by scoring a double century we can say he is in good form. Rohit Sharma is one of the most elegant batsmen when it comes to the shorter formats of the game such as the ODI and T-20. He has terrific track record playing for Mumbai Indians, both as a captain and as a batsman. Rohit Sharma scored 362 runs in that season and took 11 wickets which included a hat-trick in the 16 matches that he played.

  • Kieron Pollard

In 2013, Pollard’s unbeaten 60 off 35 ball was the turning point of the match as Mumbai beat Chennai by 23 runs to lift their maiden IPL title. While other batsmen threw away their wickets, the West Indian slammed a majestic innings and guided MI to 148 in 20 overs. Pollard once against played a starring role in the final as his quickfire knock helped Mumbai cross the 200-run mark against CSK in 2015. Apart from Pollard’s displays in the final, the other striking part here is that the two times that Mumbai have won the title, they have defeated a MS Dhoni team in the final.  This makes him an important player for the MI team.

  • Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya played a prominent role in the team winning the title in 2015 and 2017 editions, though he could not do much in the 2016 edition where he managed to score just 44 runs and take just 3 wickets in 11 matches. In the 2017 edition, he came back strong and scored 250 runs at a strike rate of 156.25 and took 6 wickets. His successful run in the internationals makes him one of the most valuable players in the IPL.

  • Jasprit Bumrah

In 2016 Bumrah showed his brilliance, clinching 15 wickets in 14 matches at an economy of 7.80. Since then, he has cemented his place in the Indian cricket team. In the 2017 edition, his performance improved dramatically and he took 20 wickets in 16 matches at an economy of 7.35 to end up 3rd on the list of highest wicket-takers. Being one of the best fast bowlers in the Indian cricket Team the only thing Mumbai Indians lacked was a strong bowling side. With Jasprit Bumrah even that is now taken care of.

  • Krunal Pandya

Just like Jasprit Bumrah is an asset to the team, so is Krunal Pandya an Asset to the Mumbai Indians. In the following season, he scored 243 runs in 13 matches and took 10 wickets in an impressive economy of 6.82. He has trapped AB de Villiers four times in the two seasons, enough to prove his mettle as a bowler.
