Chennai Super Kings are two time champions winning back to back titles in 2010 and 2011. There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the Chennai Super Kings and in the 2018 IPL we will finally see them back in action. In 2015 before their ban from the IPL, the Chennai Super Kings were a big name both on and off the field. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have decided to retain MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina for the IPL 2018. A decision with regard to retaining the third player is yet to be finalized but these two are confirmed for sure. As now the term of ban has been completed , CSK and the Royals can retain or exercise the RTM options from a pool of players “who played for them respectively in IPL 2015 and who were part of RPS (Rising Pune Supergiant) and GL (Gujarat Lions) squads in IPL 2017. Of the five players, a franchise can retain a maximum three players ahead of the auction or use three RTMs during the auction. In case of no retention before player auction, each franchise can have up to three RTMs. Here is a list of 5 players that CSK will be playing hard to retain now that it’s coming back. - Mahendra Singh Dhoni
The time for Dhoni’s Captaincy for the Rising Pune Supergiants has come to an end with the team. Dhoni is the ninth highest run scorer in IPL history. He has scored 3,561 runs in 159 IPL matches (all for CSK), at an average of 37.88 and a strike rate of 136.75. He has 17 half-centuries to his name in the IPL and his highest score in the IPL is an unbeaten 70. And is hoped to lead the CSK for 2018 as well.
- Suresh Raina
Raina is out of the Team India at the moment, but the left-hander is an IPL legend, with 4,540 runs in 161 matches at an excellent strike-rate of 139.09. He has been an important part of the Chennai Super Kings. Raina was Chennai Super Kings’ most successful run-getter during his eight-year serve with the franchise.
- Michael Hussey
Chennai Super Kings – back after a two-year hiatus – are keen on bringing back their former players and members who were part of the support staff before the team was banned. Mike Hussey, who donned the CSK jersey for seven seasons, could be part of the support staff when the next edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) kicks off. Chennai has been lobbying hard to get Mike Hussey back along with MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina returning its formal squad glory.
- Dwayne Bravo
Dwayne Bravo adds a much-needed flavour to the IPL and has been a vital part of the CSK squad ever since he moved to the side in 2011. The all-rounder has picked up wickets at crucial times for the Super Kings and has also played some important knocks for the CSK team. Bravo is the 5th highest wicket-taker in IPL history. He has picked up 122 wickets in 106 matches with best figures of 4/22. He has also scored 1,238 runs at an average of 22.92 and a strike rate of 125.94. He has four half-centuries to his name in the IPL and his highest score in the tournament is an unbeaten 70.
- Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja became the star player when Chennai Super Kings snapped him up for a whopping $2 million (Rs 9.72 crore). It was a hotly-contested bid between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for star Jadeja . And he is expected to play along with MS Dhoni for the 2018 IPL for CSK.
